One of the most important steps of your indie game campaign is going to be your press kit. Your press kit sumarizes what your game and company is all about. This is a place where journalists, webmasters and enthusiasts can go to find all the details of your game. This will allow them to write articles using the information, pictures and videos you provide.
The following instructions cover different alternatives for building your very own indie game press kit. No matter which alternative you choose, the important part is that you include as much information as possible concerning your game to allow others to advertise it for you.
In my research on building press kits for indie games I have found presskit(). Presskit() is a collection of php scripts which will build your press kit based on your input. The result is a very professional looking web page that features all the required elements of a press kit in an easy to read format.
Presskit() which is pronounced "do presskit" is free to use and can be found at http://dopresskit.com.
In order to use it, you will need to have your own website with a web host which has php enabled.
All you have to do is download the zip file they provide (I.E.: dopresskit_install.zip). Using WinRar or any other file archiver extract its content. This will create a single file called "install.php".
Now go into your website's folder structure and create a new folder called "press" or something like that where you want your press kit to be. Copy the install.php file into that location. Once this is done, open up your web browser and type the install.php's file location into your web browser's address bar.
Then, all you have to do is just follow the instructions and your press kit will be created in that location! I was skeptical at first, but once I tried it I found it very easy, convenient and the result was extremly profesional looking.
